\u201eWow, was f\u00fcr ein Jahr!\u201c werden wir alle sagen und meinen da wohl eher die neuen Komplikationen in unseren Leben.<\/p>\n
Wir sagen hier aber WAS F\u00dcR EIN JAHR! und meinen damit alles, was wir mit dem unglaublich tollen und intensiven Projekt erleben durften und weiterhin d\u00fcrfen. Wir wollen diese positiven und motivierenden News zum Abschluss dieses 2020 mit euch teilen.<\/p>\n
Letzten Winter waren wir mitten in der Postproduktion – ein intensiver und emotionaler Prozess, der unserer Regisseurin Maria so einiges abverlangt hat. Welche L\u00e4nge braucht der Film, damit er in seiner ganzen Bandbreite wirken kann und trotzdem noch in das enge Gef\u00e4ss der Kurzfilmauswertung passt? Welche Szene streichen oder k\u00fcrzen oder doch nicht? Nach 5 Monaten sowie mit Kaffee im \u00dcbermass und Schlaf im Untermass, da\u00a0war sie geboren: Die Endfassung, der so genannte Picture Lock.<\/p>\n

Corona liess uns jedoch nicht kalt, so musste die gesamte Vertonung dezentral vonstattengehen. Statt im Tonstudio sass Maria zuhause mit Kopfh\u00f6rern auf den Ohren und tauschte sich telefonisch mit dem Komponisten und Sound Designer aus. Ein etwas anderes Vorgehen als gewohnt.<\/p>\n
P\u00fcnktlich zum Lockdown waren wir bereit mit dem Film die Festivals zu erobern. Wie bei allen Produktionsfirmen stand die grosse Frage im Raum: den Film zur\u00fcckhalten bis sich alles normalisiert oder doch mit der Premiere beginnen? Wir entschieden uns f\u00fcr die zweite Option und nahmen damit in Kauf, dass der Film statt wie gewohnt im Kino an den meisten Festivals nur online gezeigt werden kann.<\/p>\n

Im August feierte ALA KACHUU – TAKE AND RUN seine Weltpremiere am 38th Flickers Rhode Island Film Festival und r\u00e4umte sogleich eine Auszeichnung ab: The Marlyn Manson Award. Diese Auszeichnung steht f\u00fcr neue Stimmen und Perspektiven von Frauen im Film. Genau was wir mit ALA KACHUU erreichen wollten. Ein grossartiger Start.<\/p>\n
Und es ging gleich weiter: Das renommierte Hollyshorts Festival (Los Angeles, USA) nahm den Film in die Auswahl, ein Signal an viele weitere Festivals. In Pittsburgh (USA) wurde ALA KACHUU von der Jury zum besten Live Action Short vom ganzen Festival ausgezeichnet.<\/p>\n

In einer Prae-Corona-Welt h\u00e4tten wir uns nat\u00fcrlich nicht die M\u00f6glichkeit nehmen lassen an den verschiedenen Festivals pers\u00f6nlich vor Ort zu sein und wertvolle, neue Kontakte zu kn\u00fcpfen. Aber wie so alles, musste auch der Festival-Austausch virtuell stattfinden – mit ganz neuen Herausforderungen, wie Maria beschreibt: \u201eJe nachdem in welchem Land der Film gezeigt wird, finden die virtuellen Veranstaltungen durch die Zeitverschiebung oft mitten in der Nacht statt und so sitze ich vor meinem Laptop in meiner K\u00fcche, statt vor Ort zu sein. Inzwischen weiss man ja, dass es bei Videokonferenzen egal ist, wenn man dabei eine Pyjamahose statt einem Red-Carpet-Outfit tr\u00e4gt.\u201c<\/p>\n

\u201cWow, what a year!\u201c we are all saying, thinking mainly of the new complications in our lives.<\/p>\n
Here we are saying WHAT A YEAR! and mean everything that we could experience and still experience with this fantastic and intense project.<\/p>\n
Last winter, we were amid postproduction \u2013 an emotionally intense and thus, very demanding process for our director Maria. How long need the film be to comprehensively touch the viewer while complying with the strict requirements for festival distribution? Which scenes can we cut out or shorten or just leave as they are? After five months and uncountable cups of coffee and way too few hours of sleep, it finally was born: the final version, the so-called picture lock.<\/p>\n
Corona did affect us, too. The scoring did not happen at the studio as usual but had to be done while physically distancing. Instead of hearing the first audio impression in Dolby Surround, Maria was sitting at home with headphones over her ears, exchanging inputs and wishes over the telephone with the compositor and the sound designer. A very different procedure than usual.<\/p>\n
Right when the lockdown was announced, the film was ready to start conquering the festivals. As all production companies, we were confronted with the question: Should we hold back the film until things have normalized, or should we start exploiting it? We chose the latter and accepted that it would be screened mainly online instead of at movie theatres.<\/p>\n
In August, ALA KACHUU \u2013 TAKE AND RUN celebrated its world premiere at the 38th Flickers Rhode Island Film Festival and directly won its first prize: The Marlyn Manson Award. An award dedicated to new voices and new perspectives by women in film. Exactly what we wanted to achieve with ALA KACHUU. A terrific start!<\/p>\n
And so it continued: the renowned Hollyshorts Festival (Los Angeles, USA) selected our film, an important signal to all other festivals. In Pittsburgh (USA), ALA KACHUU was honored as the Best Live Action Narrative Short.<\/p>\n

Of course, in a pre-Corona world, we wouldn\u2019t have missed the opportunity of personally visiting the festivals to connect with filmmakers from all around the world and do some valuable networking. But as with just about everything this year, the exchange had to take place virtually \u2013 with totally new challenges as Maria describes: \u201cDepending on the country screening our film, many virtual events took place in the middle of the night. So I am sitting in front of my laptop in my kitchen instead of being there live. Meanwhile, we all know that it does not matter for video calls if you are wearing pajamas instead of an evening dress for the red carpet. \u201c<\/p>\n
Dear fans and backers, once more, we owe you a big thank you for your support almost two years ago. Thanks to you, we could dare to begin this venture. You believed in us and in our project and therefore contributed to making it happen. THANK YOU!<\/p>\n
